Following on from the success of a similar event last year the Roman Way Chapter No. 9533 held a white table luncheon on Saturday 19th October at the Bell Hotel, Winslow in aid of the Royal Arch 2013 Bi-Centennial appeal for the Royal College of Surgeons.
The luncheon was organized by the MEZ of the Chapter, E.Comp Terry Jones, most ably assisted by the Charity Steward, E.Comp Tony Cersell, and with the co-operation of the owner of the Bell Hotel, Comp Phillip Menday of Wineslai Chapter No. 2435. It was attended by over ninety members and their guests including the Most Excellent Grand Superintendent, Dr Richard Neale, and his wife Pru. Also present was a representative of the Royal College of Surgeons, Mr Richard Villar, FRCS, the world renowned Orthopaedic Surgeon and member of the Pheonix Lodge No. 257, Portsmouth. The event raised nearly one thousand four hundred pounds.
After the lunch entertainment was provided by “Junction Fourteen”, the Milton Keynes Ladies “Barbershop” Singers who gave a most harmonious rendition of a number of popular songs. Following this the MEZ presented a cheque for two thousand pounds to Mr Villar as a donation towards the Bi-Centennial Appeal, which was gratefully received. He then spoke in a most enthusiastic manner of his work and how such donations are so greatly needed to improve patient care. The Grand Superintendent then congratulated those concerned in the organization and success of the lunch and also the Roman Way Chapter not only for this donation in particular, but generally on its popularity, enthusiasm and the ability to raise such amounts in the cause of charity.
To date Roman Way Chapter, by staging fund raising events, raffles, alms collections and personal donations, has raised over five thousand seven hundred pounds for the RA Bi-Centennial Appeal and expects this amount to rise to over six thousand pounds by the end of the appeal.
