Early in 1967 the Brethren of Hampden Lodge No. 6483 muted an idea of forming Hampden Chapter. Preliminary meetings were held; sixteen Petitioners from Chapters in the Province applied to Supreme Grand Chapter for authorisation.
Approval was granted and on the 4th February, 1969. Excellent Companion Sir Ralph Verney, Bt, KBE, DL conducted a Consecration Ceremony at Aylesbury Masonic Hall, with sixty-three other Companions present.
Hampden Chapter proudly named after the great Parliamentarian, John Hampden whose family motto is, ‘Nulla Retrorsum’ meaning ‘No way back’, reminds us of the prayer offered by Joshua in the Exaltation Ceremony, ‘that he may not enter our Order lightly nor recede from it hastily but, pursue it steadfastly’.

Since inception we have welcomed many new Exaltees’; some of whom have received honours and high Office. Our numbers despite natural wastage remain consistent and we are optimistic that the future bodes well.
Year 2019 will celebrate our 50th birthday, which is of great satisfaction to us all.
